The B Grade Grand Final is at 12:00 followed by A Grade at 1:30.

Also this year, as our annual Grand Final donation, Maitland Hockey Inc is donating to the Cancer Council in support of our players and their families who have been impacted by cancer.

Every dollar to the Cancer Council goes towards cancer research, support services, prevention programs and advocacy and if you’d also like to contribute, we will have donation buckets at the field on Saturday for any cash donations or you can also donate via the Hornets team Hockey Sisters QR code below.

Maitland Hockey Recognises NAIDOC Week

A reminder that National NAIDOC Week will be celebrated across Australia next week 7th to 14th July to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Maitland Hockey Inc will recognise NAIDOC Week and the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to hockey and to our Community during this Saturday’s competition, 6th July, with an Acknowledgement of Country prior to each game.

Check out some other ideas below and at https://www.naidoc.org.au/ on how you can support NAIDOC Week this year.

Urapun Muy – NAIDOC Week Poster

This year’s winning NAIDOC Poster ‘Urapun Muy’ will be displayed at the Maitland Hockey Centre on Saturday 6th July and throughout the following NAIDOC Week as we take this opportunity to recognise the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to hockey in Maitland and the Hunter as well as in our wider Community.

As a bit of background, the National NAIDOC Week Poster Competition has been running since 1967 and each year encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists aged 16 years and over to submit their artwork reflecting that year’s theme. This year’s poster, by Samuawgadhalgal artist Deb Belyea, is entitled ‘Urapun Muy’ (from the Kalaw Kawaw Ya dialect of the Top Western Islands of the Torres Strait) and means ‘One Fire’.

Reflecting this year’s theme, ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud’, it represents the shared fire of passion for the oldest living culture in the world and the sharing of cultural knowledge from one generation to the next.

Further information about NAIDOC can be found at: https://www.naidoc.org.au/

Maitland Hockey Inc will recognise NAIDOC Week on Saturday 6th July with an Acknowledgement of Country prior to each game.
