Announcement re Maitland Hockey end of season, due to Covid restrictions

26th August 2021

Dear Maitland Hockey Inc players and families,

We hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy during the pandemic, despite being unable to play hockey and not seeing our hockey friends each week.

This morning the Premier announced that the Hunter Region will continue in lockdown until 10th September.  After that date, it is likely that there will be a gradual easing of Covid restrictions, so it is uncertain when community sport will be allowed again.

In the light of this uncertainty, the MHI Executive met and has sadly decided to abandon the remaining weeks of our 2021 Women’s and Junior Winter competitions.

The MHI Treasurer will be refunding four weeks’ turf fees to each of the women’s teams.  Team organisers will then contact their players to let them know refund options. Junior players/families will be contacted separately by the MHI Treasurer about refund options.

The Executive discussed some possible scenarios for Summer and the 2022 season, including a possible pre-season competition or other format.  Options will be further discussed and will be organised when it is safe to do so. We will keep you all informed via Revolutionise, the website, email and Facebook.

We would like to acknowledge and thank all players, parents, umpires and volunteers who have contributed to the 2021 MHI hockey season.  It’s very disappointing that we are unable to celebrate the culmination of our competitions with finals and presentations, however we look forward to when our hockey community can meet together again and enjoy playing hockey safely.

Yours in hockey,

Sally Carratt
